What is the Theta Chamber?

The Theta Chamber is an innovative therapy designed to support mood and neurological health

Inspired by studies in electrophysiological oscillations, this unique device may assist with healthy neurochemistry and support a positive mood.

The Theta Chamber delivers subtle but precisely tuned electrical frequency impulses to support neural pathways and encourage normal function. Electrical and transcranial magnetic stimulation is shown to be therapeutically beneficial for patients affected by neurological disorders. Researchers suggest that these stimulation technologies may be invaluable tools for investigating nervous system functions.

The Theta Chamber was designed to support neurological problems at their deepest level.

The following modalities work together synergistically to provide maximum effectiveness for the brain:

How does the Theta Chamber work?

In a single session, the Theta Chamber can help to support the development of new neural pathways.

The Theta Chamber administers multiple applications in each session that are designed to encourage three main objectives:

  1. Induce a “theta brainwave state”, in which the brain is more conducive to learning and healing.
  2. Assist the hypothalamus in producing healthy levels of serotonin, dopamine and other neurotransmitters.
  3. Encourage the brain to create and use new, normal neural pathways (also known as “entrainment”).

Originally developed in 1989, the Theta Chamber has been shown to support normal and healthy brain chemistry.

Findings to date suggest that brainwave entrainment is an effective therapeutic tool that may benefit those affected by cognitive functioning deficits, stress, pain, headache/migraines, PMS, and behavioral problems.

What are brainwaves?

Also referred to as neural oscillations, “brain waves” occur throughout the central nervous system and at all levels which can be measured by electroencephalography (EEG).

Electrophysiological oscillations have been associated with different roles in feedforward and feedback processes and to different cortical layers.

Electrophysiological oscillations have been associated with different roles in feedforward and feedback processes and to different cortical layers.

  • Alpha activity (8-12 Hz) can be detected in the brain during relaxed wakefulness.
  • Beta (13-30 Hz) corresponds with mental alertness and concentration.
  • Gamma (30-70 Hz) is associated with cognitive processing.
  • Theta (4-8 Hz) associated with relaxation and near-sleep.
  • Delta (1-4 Hz) occurs during sleep.

Binaural Audio Frequency

A review published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry notes that several studies have reported binaural audio frequency stimulation to have a diminishing effect on anxiety levels.

Subtle pulses or “beats” are played through headphones. These slightly offset tones may assist in bringing the brain into a Theta state.

Different frequencies can have different effects on brain waves. For example, playing 300 Hz in one ear and 310 in the other results in a binaural audio frequency of 10 Hz.

These binaural audio frequency support synchronization of the cerebral hemispheres and help stimulate entertainment. This process can be deeply relaxing.

Vestibular Motion

The spinning of the chamber helps to disorient the brain from its sense of time and space. At the same time, the spinning motion encourages the biomagnetic field to flow more effectively. This may assist in balancing the inner ear.

The patient may feel as if they are floating, which assists with further relaxation.

Cranial Frequency Stimulation

Cranial Frequency Stimulation is designed to support recovery from unhealthy habits and addictions. It may also assist with mental and emotional difficulties, such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. These small perturbations of brain oscillations are suggested to have significant effects on normal resting state brain activity.

Cranial Frequency Stimulation produces a state of deep relaxation, which can assist in opening the mind and allowing healthy neuroactivity.

Visual Light Pattern Stimulation

Sensory stimulation through light and sound are used to support pathways deep within the brain.

Computer-generated light patterns are calibrated to synchronize with the binaural audio frequency. This may assist in inducing the Theta state and triggering new thought patterns. These rhythms and patterns can potentially support healthy neuronal activity.

The Theta Chamber uses specific technology to generate and synchronize frequency signaling alongside light and sound for maximum benefit.

Through decades of research and testing, doctors have been able to determine the precise frequencies, waveforms, amplitudes and signal strength needed to treat certain conditions such as anxiety, depression and insomnia, as well as addiction to substances and stimuli such as opiates, barbiturates, alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and pornography. Each one requires a different, specific and precise setting for maximum effectiveness.

Frequency Signaling

The brain is an electro-chemical instrument that constantly produces and receives signals from various regions of the brain and throughout the nervous system.

The Theta Chamber uses precisely tuned, subtle frequency impulses similar to those produced by the brain itself. This signaling can assist with influencing neural circuits and neurochemistry.

By transmitting gentle signals that mimic the brain’s own chemistry, the Theta Chamber may assist the brain in opening up to new thought patterns. These signals support the production of normal, healthy levels of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.

The combination of these therapies are designed to elicit a neurological and physiological response. Many clients report feelings of wellbeing, deep relaxation, and vivid dreams.

Background of Theta Chamber Technology

image

1950s

Starting in the late 1950's when it was discovered as a method of pain relief, micro-current stimulation has been administered in many ways, and under many conditions. Early on, a device was developed that administered micro-current signals through the earlobes into the brain. The device was worn by the patient for 23 hours each day, for many weeks, in order to have the desired effect (such as treatment of heroin addiction, anxiety, depression, or insomnia).

1989

In 1989, Loran Swenson developed the Omega Brain 5000. It sharply increased efficiency by only administering treatment when the brain is already in the Theta state.

This dramatically reduced the total elapsed time of treatment from 23 hours down to just 2, while increasing overall effectiveness, because it is administered while the brain is most capable of receiving it.

The modern, state-of-the-art Theta Chamber is a result of 30 years of evolution and refinement of Loran Swenson’s original device.
